چکیده

We present a study of the spectral variability of the Seyfert I galaxy MCG–6-3015 based on the two long XMM-Newton observations from 2000 and 2001. The X– ray spectrum and variability properties of the 2001 data have previously been well described with a two-component model consisting of a variable power law and a much less variable reflection component, containing a broad relativistic iron line from the accretion disc around a rapidly rotating Kerr black hole. The lack of variability of the reflection component has been interpreted as an effect of strong gravitational light bending very close to the central black hole. Using an improved reflection model, we fit the two-component model to time-resolved spectra of both observations. Assuming that the photon index of the power law is constant we reconfirm the old result and show that this does not depend on the time-scale of the analysis.

Timing Analysis of the Seyfert-1 Galaxy Mcg−6-30-15 with Xmm-newton Data

We present the main results of a deep timing analysis (in the 0.2-10 keV energy band) of the bright Seyfert-1 galaxy MCG−6-30-15 performed on XMM-Newton data. The light-curves and hardness ratios show that the source has large flux and spectral variations on time-scales of a few kiloseconds at most. From the analysis of both the power spectra and the structure function of the light curves we de...

A long, hard look at MCG–6-30-15 with XMM-Newton II: detailed EPIC analysis and modelling

The bright Seyfert 1 galaxy MCG–6-30-15 has provided some of the best evidence to date for the existence of supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei. Observations with ASCA revealed an X-ray iron line profile shaped by strong Doppler and gravitational effects. In this paper the shape of the iron line, its variability characteristics and the robustness of this spectral interpretation a...

Accretion Processes in Agn : the X-ray View

We discuss constraints on the physics of the inner accretion disk, as well as the properties of the black hole itself, that can be derived by a detailed examination of the relativistically broadened spectral features (especially the fluorescent iron line) in the Seyfert galaxy MCG–6-30-15. To begin with, we show that spectral models which purport to eliminate the broad iron line in MCG–6-30-15 ...

Principal Component Analysis of MCG–06-30-15 with XMM-Newton

We analyse the spectral variability of MCG–06-30-15 with 600 ks of XMM-Newton data, including 300 ks of new data from the joint XMM-Newton and NuSTAR 2013 observational campaign. We use principal component analysis to find high resolution, model independent spectra of the different variable components of the spectrum. We find that over 99 per cent of the variability can be described by just thr...

X - ray to UV Variability Correlation in MCG – 6 - 30 - 15

We used a ∼ 300 ks long XMM-Newton observation of the Seyfert 1 galaxy MCG–6-30-15 to study the correlation between the 0.2–10 keV X-ray and the 3000–4000 Å U bands. We found a significant correlation peak at a time lag of τmax ∼ 160 ks where the UV flux variations preceded the variations in the X-ray band. We interpret this result as evidence in favour of Comptonisation models where the observ...
